Advertising Campaigns: A Single Platform for PPC, DEM, and SMS

A unified approach across all the channels you use, with goals defined before spending.

When a business owner talks about their most recent advertising experience, the recurring phrase is almost always the same: “We spent money, something happened, but we can’t quite put our finger on what.”

The issue is rarely the chosen channel. More often than not, it’s that the campaign was launched before anyone had defined what was supposed to happen, how people would know what was happening, and who would be looking at those numbers.

This page explains how the three types of ad campaigns are structured, what purpose each one serves, and how they fit together.

It takes just three minutes to read this and figure out where to start in your company.

Advertising Campaigns: The Difference Between Spending and Investing

Advertising campaigns are the fastest way for a company to reach people who aren’t yet familiar with it.

Fast—and therefore delicate: the speed with which they generate leads is the same speed at which they burn through the budget when the direction is unclear.

The difference between the two outcomes almost always lies in the events leading up to the announcement.
It comes down to the audience’s choice, the consistency between the promise and the landing page, and the ability to distinguish between a metric that describes the business and one that describes only the campaign.

At Factory Communication, we work with owners of small and medium-sized businesses who have already tried online advertising and want to start over on a more solid foundation.

The consulting process begins with the business objective and proceeds to the channel, in that order.

Just because a campaign is running doesn't necessarily mean it's effective

The budget is spent where no one is looking

Campaigns that fall short rarely fail in any obvious way. They keep running, show rising numbers, and generate reports with upward-trending graphs.

Value slips away unnoticed: audiences that are too broad, keywords that tap into curiosity rather than purchase intent, and landing pages that fail to welcome visitors properly.

Metrics That Reassure Without Informing

Impressions, reach, and clicks indicate how widely the campaign was seen. They say little about how effective it was.

A company can double its clicks and reduce its leads in the same month, and it might not even notice based on those numbers.

The questions that really matter are different: How many valuable leads were generated? How much did each one cost? How many of them became customers?

These are the only qualities an entrepreneur can bring to a board of directors.

What is an advertising campaign?

An advertising campaign is a coordinated set of messages disseminated across one or more channels, with a stated objective, a defined audience, a set budget, and a specific duration.

It differs from a single ad in that it involves a strategy, targeting criteria, and a measurement system that are determined before publication.

The Three Types of Advertising Campaigns

Every advertising campaign belongs to one of three categories, distinguished by how they reach people. Choosing them wisely means matching the channel to the moment when the customer is ready to listen.

Pay-Per-Click Campaigns

They reach people as they’re searching. They’re the best fit when there’s already a specific search query: someone types in a need, and your company appears among the results.

These include search advertising, display ads, video ads, and social media campaigns.

DEM Campaigns

They reach people in their inboxes through databases of contacts who have been profiled and authorized to receive marketing communications.

We’re the right choice when you need to introduce your company to a broad audience that isn’t yet familiar with it.

SMS Campaigns

They reach people on their phones, with read times that no other channel can match.

I’m the perfect choice for time-sensitive communications: a launch, a limited-time promotion, or a reminder.

The three channels work better together than they do separately. A pay-per-click campaign drives qualified traffic, a direct email marketing (DEM) campaign expands the audience familiar with the brand, and an SMS campaign re-engages those who were already interested. Coordination is essential to ensure they work in tandem rather than overlap.

The Factory Method

How We Work on Your Campaigns

The process consists of four steps, always in the same order.

01

Listening and Analysis

Before opening any account, we gather the company’s business goals for the year, data from past campaigns, information on competitors’ positioning, and the information the company already has about its customers.

02

Strategy

We define target audiences, messages, channels, and metrics. This is the moment when we decide what “it worked” will mean—and put it in writing.

03

Activation

We build campaigns, tracking systems, and landing pages. We launch them on a tight budget and monitor them closely, so we can make corrections sooner rather than later.

04

Amplification and Measurement

Let’s analyze the results using the same framework we defined at the beginning, shift the budget toward what generates results, and scale up what works.

Strategic Sectors

The industries in which we operate

Food & Beverage

Campaigns based on seasonality and the restaurant’s actual catchment area, with investment focused on the times when the dining rooms are full.

Tourism & Hospitality

Campaigns designed to increase direct bookings and reduce reliance on booking platforms.

Fashion & Luxury

Campagne che sostengono la percezione di valore del marchio, con formati e contesti scelti per coerenza estetica oltre che per resa.

Finance & Legal

Campaigns designed to generate qualified leads, developed in compliance with ethical guidelines and data protection regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions About Advertising Campaigns

What kind of advertising campaign is right for my company?

It depends on the starting point. When there’s already targeted demand, pay-per-click campaigns are the most direct choice. When you need to reach a broad audience, direct email marketing (DEM) has a wider reach. When communication has a time-sensitive nature, text messages get the message across faster than any other channel.

Start with the business objective, define the target audience, choose the channel, and only then write the ad. Before publishing, set up tracking and the landing page. Once the campaign is live, monitor the results, make adjustments, and reallocate the budget to what’s delivering results.

The investment consists of two components: advertising spend, which depends on the level of competition in the industry and the target audience, and the work involved in planning and management. We determine both together after an initial meeting, once the objectives are clear and the estimate becomes reliable.

Pay-per-click campaigns on the search network target people who are already searching. Display campaigns show image ads on third-party websites and on YouTube and are used to build brand awareness or to reach people who have already visited the site. Many effective strategies use both, with distinct objectives.

Search network campaigns generate initial leads within a few weeks. The platforms’ algorithms go through a two- or three-week learning phase, and it takes about three months to obtain a reliable reading of the data. Key performance indicators are visible from day one.

Remarketing shows ads to people who have already visited the site but did not leave their contact information. It targets an audience that is already familiar with the company, which is why it tends to cost less per lead generated. It’s a good idea to enable it once the site is receiving enough traffic to build an audience.

Many companies do this successfully, especially when they have a dedicated, trained staff member. External consulting adds value when expertise is needed across multiple channels at the same time, or when internal resources are better spent elsewhere. We also support internal teams with training and supervision.

This year’s business goals, data from previous campaigns (if available), and an hour-long discussion. From there, we’ll develop a proposal that includes channels, timelines, and metrics. The first meeting is free and non-binding.
